The Honeywell Thor VM3 is a full-sized vehicle mount computer designed for use in distribution centers and manufacturing environments. The VM3 has a 12.1″ screen and comes standard with a resistive touchscreen (for use with finger or stylus) although an optional projective capacitance touchscreen is available. An optional screen defroster allows this computer to be used in cold storage and freezer environments while a bright outdoor display makes it suitable for outdoor environments (the cold storage touchscreen is resistive only since workers in these environments typically wear gloves).
Two key features of the Thor VM3 computer are its Smart Dock and field-replaceable front panel – both designed to minimize downtime and maximize your capital investment. The Smart Dock allows you to easily move computers from one vehicle to another while the field-replaceable front panel allows you to replace the front touch screen (one of the most common points of failure in a vehicle mount computer) without having to send the computer in for repair.
Another key feature of the Thor VM3 is that it enables you to upgrade from Microsoft Windows XP-based vehicle mount computers to a Windows 7 or Windows 8 based system. You can choose between WEC 7 (Windows Embedded Compact 7), WES 7 (Windows Embedded Standard), Windows 7 or Windows Embedded 8.1 Industry Pro.
Like most vehicle mount computers, the VM3 includes WLAN (802.11 a/b/g/n) communications as well as Bluetooth connectivity; barcode scanners can be connected to this computer via Bluetooth or one of the VM3’s USB ports. Unique safety features of the VM3 include optional built-in screen blanking to limit driver distraction or the enhanced version with Zoom Zone which only shows a portion of the screen to help the driver focus on what he needs to know.
Field-Replaceable Front Panel: What’s one of the most common items that needs to be replaced on a vehicle mount computer? The Front Panel! By providing a field-replaceable front panel, you can minimize downtime and replace the front panel yourself and not deal with the hassle of sending the vehicle mount computer in for repair.
Multiple Displays Options: In addition to a standard resistive touchscreen display, the VM3 has optional screen defroster for freezer/cold storage environments or bright screen for outdoor use.
Screen Blanking/Zoom Zone: Worker safety is improved through the use of the optional screen blanking software which can detect when the vehicle is in motion (via accelerometer); safety can be further improved with Zoom Zone which only shows a selected portion of the screen to a driver (e.g. the staging location).
