The Zebra ZXP Series 8 Card Printer is the re-transfer printer in Zebra’s ZXP series of printers. This technology enables edge-to-edge printing since it prints to a film which is then transferred (thermally bonded) to the card. Most other card printers use dye-sublimation technology and “direct-to-card” technology which leaves an unprinted area around the card’s edges.
This printer is capable of printing cards at 190 cards per hour print speed (color, single-sided). Basic hardware features of the ZXP8 include a USB and Ethernet port, 150 card input hopper, 100 card output hopper, 21-character, 6-line LCD panel and a Kensington lock for card security; available options for this printer include 802.11 (wireless), integrated barcode reader and a single-sided/dual-sided laminator. Encoder options for the ZXP8 include a 3-stripe magnetic stripe encoder (high and low-coercivity), Smart Card Contact Station and MIFARE Contactless Encoder.
Another important advantage of the ZXP 8 re-transfer printer is its life-time printhead warranty (because the printhead does not come in direct contact with the card on a re-transfer printer, printhead wear-and-tear is minimal which is why Zebra can offer a lifetime warranty on the printhead). The ZXP Series 8 printer itself has a two year warranty.
